Word:
While Jesus was in the Temple,
he watched the rich people dropping their gifts in the collection box.
Then a poor widow came by and dropped in two small coins.
“I tell you the truth,” Jesus said,
“this poor widow has given more than all the rest of them.
For they have given a tiny part of their surplus,
but she, poor as she is, has given everything she has.”
Luke 21:1-4 (NLT)

1. Read Luke 20:45-47. What critique does Jesus give to the religious leaders?

2. Keep the religious leaders in mind as you read Luke 21:1-4 above.

A. Who was Jesus comparing? __________________________________________

B. What was the difference in their behavior?

3. What do you think Jesus meant when He talked about giving out of surplus?

4. What did Jesus mean when He says she “has given everything she has?”

5. Do you give to God out of your surplus, or do you dig deep?

6. What does it mean in our culture to “give it all?”
A. What Biblical commitments for your money can you think of?

B. Why does talking about our money create such distress for us?

C. What emotions, questions, fears, concerns, etc. come into play when you speak of money?

6. Last but not least… How does this passage of scripture speak to our current challenges and concerns as a church?

Pray for our church.

Witness: Be praying for your OIKOS this week! Ask God to show you “the person of peace.” This person is open to the gospel, and is the key to reaching a completely new OIKOS. God is already preparing this person to connect with you and talk about Jesus.
